Proline 20518 is a mechanical outside micrometer supplied as one piece. This handheld precision measuring tool is designed to measure external dimensions such as thickness and diameter with repeatable mechanical accuracy. Intended for workshop and industrial use, the micrometer supports machining checks, quality control and assembly verification where reliable, tactile measurement is required. The instrument comes with a durable aluminum case and a tungsten carbide anvil to resist wear during repeated contact with measured parts.
The mechanical design provides reliable, direct readings without batteries or electronics, enabling use in environments where power-free tools are preferred. The tungsten carbide anvil improves wear resistance and maintains measurement accuracy over time when measuring metal and other hard materials. Supplied as a single compact unit with an aluminum case, the micrometer is easy to store and transport between job sites or workstations.
Place the micrometer around the object to be measured and advance the spindle until the anvil and spindle faces make gentle contact with the workpiece. Use the ratchet or friction thimble (if present) to apply consistent measuring force and read the measurement from the micrometer scale. For repeatable results, ensure surfaces are clean and free of burrs, and sight the scale at eye level. After measurement, retract the spindle slightly and store the micrometer in its aluminum case to protect the carbide anvil and measuring faces.
Keep the measuring faces clean and lightly oiled to prevent corrosion; avoid applying excessive force when closing the spindle. Calibrate or check the micrometer against a gauge block or standard at regular intervals to maintain measurement accuracy in workshop and industrial environments.
