Drill bit Proline 77160 — metal drill bit Ø16 mm, length 178 mm, 1 pc
Single Proline 77160 metal drill bit with a 16 mm cutting diameter and 178 mm overall length. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) by precision grinding, this straight-shank drill bit is intended for drilling metal and similar materials. The 135° point angle with chamfering adjustment shortens the time required for centre punching and enables efficient, accurate starts. Supplied as one piece in protective plastic packaging, the bit is suitable for use in hand drills and drill presses for metalworking, repair and construction tasks.
The drill bit is produced by full grinding for improved concentricity and straightness of holes, delivering higher precision than conventional cylindrical ground tools. HSS construction provides increased resistance to abrasion and enhanced torsional strength, extending tool life under typical metal drilling conditions. The 135° point geometry with chamfer adjustment facilitates quick penetration and reduces walking at the start of the hole, while the standard straight shank fits common drill chucks.
Secure the drill bit in a properly tightened chuck compatible with a 16 mm straight shank. Select an appropriate cutting speed and feed rate for the metal being drilled—lower speeds for harder steels and higher speeds for softer, non-ferrous metals. Apply cutting lubricant when drilling steel or alloys to reduce heat and wear. Start drilling with steady, moderate pressure to allow the 135° point to engage, then maintain a consistent feed until the hole is complete. After use, withdraw the bit periodically to clear chips and reapply lubricant if necessary.
For best results, use cutting oil when drilling ferrous metals, clamp the workpiece securely, and avoid excessive side loads. Replace the bit when wear or chipping reduces performance; regrinding can restore geometry if material removal is feasible.
