Drill bit Proline 77170 — metal drill bit Ø17 mm, length 184 mm, 1 pc
Proline 77170 is a single metal drill bit with a 17 mm diameter and overall length of 184 mm designed for drilling holes in steel, iron and other ferrous materials. The straight shank fits both hand drills and drill presses. Manufactured from refined high-speed steel and produced entirely by grinding, this drill bit is built for precision, straightness of holes and improved durability in metalworking and repair applications.
The drill bit features a 135° point angle with chamfering adjustment that facilitates rapid drilling and reduces the need for extensive centre punching. Full grinding manufacture ensures high concentricity and straightness of the hole, while refined HSS material provides increased abrasion resistance, resilience and torsional strength for demanding metalworking tasks. Supplied individually in a protective plastic tube for secure storage and transport.
Secure the drill bit firmly in the drill chuck, ensuring the straight shank is fully seated. Mark and, if needed, centre-punch the drilling location to improve accuracy. Use an appropriate spindle speed and feed for metal drilling—moderate speed for larger diameters—and apply steady pressure without forcing the bit. Use cutting fluid or coolant for prolonged drilling sessions to reduce heat and extend tool life. Clear chips regularly to maintain cutting efficiency.
For best results when drilling steel and other ferrous materials, start with a light pilot hole if extreme positional accuracy is required, use cutting fluid to reduce friction and heat, and allow the bit to clear chips frequently. Inspect the bit for wear before use and replace when signs of deformation or excessive dulling appear to maintain hole quality and operator safety.
