Proline 77645 is a single HSS metal drill bit with a 4.5 mm diameter and a total length of 235 mm, designed for general metalworking and maintenance tasks. Built as an extra-long, fully ground twist drill, it provides precise, straight holes and is suitable for use with hand drills and drill presses. The bit is made from refined high-speed steel (HSS) and features a 135° point angle with chamfering adjustment to enable quick penetration and reduce the need for extended marking or pilot drilling.
The fully ground flute geometry ensures high accuracy and rectilinearity of drilled holes, which is especially beneficial when working with drill bushes or jigs. The extra length allows access to deeper or recessed areas without extensions. Made of high-quality refined HSS, the bit offers good wear resistance and reliable edge retention for drilling steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics. The 135° point angle with chamfering improves centring and reduces walking at the start of drilling.
Secure the workpiece and select appropriate clamping or a drill bush for best accuracy. Fit the 4.5 mm HSS drill bit into the chuck of a hand drill or drill press and tighten firmly. Use recommended cutting speeds and feed rates for the material being drilled; apply cutting fluid when working with steel to extend tool life and improve chip evacuation. Start drilling at low speed to establish the hole, then increase speed as appropriate, applying steady pressure and avoiding excessive side forces.
For best results, use a suitable cutting lubricant when drilling steel, and consider a small pilot hole when extreme precision is required. Replace the drill bit if signs of wear or chipping appear to maintain hole quality and safety.
