Proline 77650 is a single HSS metal drill bit with a 5 mm cutting diameter and a total length of 245 mm. Manufactured for drilling steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics, this extra-long straight shank bit fits handheld drills and drill presses. The fully ground flute and precise geometry provide high accuracy and straightness of holes, making it suitable for operations that require a reliable 5 mm bore.
The bit features a 135° point angle with chamfering adjustment to enable faster centring and reduced walking at the start of drilling. Fully ground construction ensures consistent concentricity and rectilinearity, which is beneficial when drilling with drill bushes or for applications that demand precise alignment. Made from refined high-speed steel (HSS), the drill provides wear resistance and cutting performance suitable for general metalworking tasks. The extra length allows deeper reaches without extensions.
Secure the drill bit in a suitable chuck and tighten firmly to avoid slippage. Select an appropriate spindle speed and cutting fluid for the work material—lower speeds and cutting oil for harder steels, higher speeds for softer metals and plastics. Start drilling using light axial pressure until the point engages, then apply steady feed. For deep holes use pecking cycles to clear chips and maintain cooling. Inspect the hole for straightness and ream or deburr as required to achieve the final diameter and finish.
Use cutting fluid when machining ferrous materials, clamp or support thin workpieces to prevent vibration, and consider a drill bush or jig for repeatable hole positioning. Replace the bit if wear or chipping reduces accuracy.
