Wide-angle lens Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC for Pentax — 13 elements/12 groups, 0.25 m close focus, Pentax KA mount, black
Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC for Pentax is a wide-angle manual-focus lens for Pentax KA-mount cameras. It features a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture and an optical design of 13 elements in 12 groups, including four low-dispersion (ED) elements and two aspherical elements. Multi-layer UMC anti-reflective coatings improve light transmission and reduce internal reflections. The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.25 m and compact physical dimensions suitable for landscape, architecture and environmental portrait photography.
The fast f/1.4 aperture provides better low-light performance and shallower depth of field control compared with typical wide-angle lenses. ED glass elements reduce chromatic aberration while aspherical elements limit spherical aberration, resulting in improved sharpness and contrast across the frame. UMC coatings help maintain colour fidelity and reduce flare. The manual-focus design gives precise control over focusing, and the 24mm focal length delivers a wide angle of view on full-frame bodies and an approximately 36mm equivalent field of view on APS-C cameras.
Attach the lens to a Pentax KA-mount camera and set the camera to use manual-focus operation. Use the focus ring to achieve sharp focus at your chosen distance; the 0.25 m minimum focus distance enables close wide-angle shots. Select aperture values as needed — f/1.4 for low-light or shallow depth-of-field effects, smaller apertures for greater depth of field. Compose and meter from the camera, and use appropriate exposure settings or external flash according to the scene.
For best results, pair the lens with a stable support (tripod) for long exposures or when stopping down for maximum sharpness. Avoid direct strong light sources in the frame to reduce flare; use the lens hood if provided. On APS-C bodies the field of view is roughly equivalent to a 36 mm lens on full-frame cameras, offering a versatile focal length for everyday wide-angle use.
