Wide fish-eye lens Samyang 8mm T/3.8 Cine Black for MFT
The Samyang 8mm T/3.8 Fish Eye HD Cine lens for MFT is a wide fisheye lens offering a 180° field of view for Micro Four Thirds cameras. Built with 10 elements in 7 groups including an aspherical element, it is designed for HD video and stills, providing strong fisheye perspective and minimized chromatic aberration. The lens accepts a removable tulip-shaped hood and features an internal focus mechanism to keep the front element stationary during focus pulls.
The lens provides a pronounced fisheye distortion across full-frame-equivalent and MFT sensors without the need for additional optics or heavy post-production correction. A silent iris ring allows smooth aperture changes for video, while geared focus and iris rings support follow-focus and motorized iris systems. The optical construction with an aspherical element delivers sharp images with reduced chromatic aberration, and the close focusing distance of 0.3 m enables creative close-up compositions.
Mount the lens on a compatible Micro Four Thirds camera and secure the focus and iris gears to your follow-focus or motors if required. Use the silent iris ring to make smooth aperture changes during recording; adjust focus manually using the geared focus ring while monitoring the image on your camera or external monitor. Attach the tulip-shaped hood when needed to reduce stray light and flare. For close-up shots, move the camera to the minimum focus distance of 0.3 m from the subject.
For best results in video production, pair the lens with a follow-focus system and use gradual iris pulls to avoid abrupt exposure changes; keep the lens front clean and avoid heavy post-processing to preserve the optical quality and characteristic fisheye rendering.
