Samyang 8mm T3.1 Cine UMC FISH-EYE II Wide fish-eye lens for Sony E mount, 11/8 elements/groups, Ø73.6mm, 64.5mm length, 270g, black
Samyang 8mm T3.1 Cine UMC FISH‑EYE II is a manual wide fish‑eye cine lens designed for APS‑C mirrorless cameras (Sony E mount among others). Its 180° field of view and compact metal body (Ø73.6 mm, 64.5 mm length, 270 g) create dramatic ultra‑wide perspectives while remaining portable. The lens uses an optical formula of 11 elements in 8 groups, including two aspherical (AS) and three low‑dispersion (ED) glass elements, with Samyang’s Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) to reduce flare and improve contrast. The uncoupled aperture ring and geared focus ring are suitable for cine-style manual operation and follow focus systems.
The lens delivers a full 180° fish‑eye look with consistent center and corner image quality thanks to AS and ED elements and UMC coating. A low T‑number (T3.1) reflects effective light transmission for predictable exposure during video work. The compact, high‑strength aluminium alloy body and integrated petal‑shaped hood reduce flare and provide durable, lightweight handling for on‑location and studio use. Separate geared focus and uncoupled aperture rings allow smooth manual control and compatibility with follow focus systems.
Mount the lens onto a compatible APS‑C mirrorless camera (choose appropriate mount). Use manual focus and the geared focus ring for precise framing; the gear is compatible with follow focus accessories. Set exposure using the lens T‑stop (T3.1) and camera settings; because the aperture ring is uncoupled, adjust iris quietly during recording for smooth exposure changes. The built‑in petal hood should remain in place to minimise flare and ghosting.
For cinematic results, pair the Samyang 8mm T3.1 Cine UMC FISH‑EYE II with a follow focus and external monitor to compose accurately at the extreme wide angle. Use controlled lighting or lens shading when shooting bright highlights to reduce unwanted flare despite UMC coating.
