Słowik water level measuring vial for spirit level, model 55-535
The Słowik water level measuring vial model 55-535 is a replacement menzurka designed for use with spirit levels and other leveling tools that rely on a liquid column to transfer a horizontal reference over distance. This water-based vial provides a visible, stable water surface that can be aligned to mark matching height points across walls, floors or construction sites where conventional air-bubble vials are impractical or where longer reach is required.
This replacement measuring vial offers stable and continuous horizontal reference using a liquid column, enabling accurate transfer of level points between non-line-of-sight positions. Its construction is intended for straightforward installation in compatible spirit levels and for use in varied environments including indoor construction and plumbing. The water-based measuring method is insensitive to small tube bending and thermal shifts that can affect air-bubble vials, and it allows long-distance leveling without the need for powered equipment.
The water level measuring vial is not ideal for environments where freezing temperatures are expected unless appropriate antifreeze measures are used, because the liquid column can freeze and become unusable. It may also be less convenient for rapid, repetitive measurements in tight spaces where compact, integrated air-bubble vials offer faster single-person operation.
Install the measuring vial into a compatible spirit level or attach the tube ends to the points to be levelled following the manufacturer’s instructions for your tool. Fill the tube with water (or a recommended liquid) to the indicated level, ensuring no air pockets remain that could affect accuracy. Position both ends at the reference points and wait for the water surfaces to stabilise; mark the corresponding heights when the water settles to the same level on each end. After use, drain and dry the vial if storing in cold conditions or when transporting.
For best accuracy, use clean water or the fluid specified by the spirit level manufacturer, avoid kinks in the tube, and allow the water surface to stabilise before marking. Store the vial drained and dry if ambient temperatures may fall below freezing.
