Description

The Sony α ILCE-7M4 mirrorless camera body features a newly developed 33.0 MP full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor and advanced BIONZ XR image processing. Designed for stills and movies, the α7 IV delivers high-speed readout, wide dynamic range and accurate colour reproduction while supporting 4K movie recording, fast continuous shooting and extensive connectivity options.

Advantages

The α7 IV combines a 33 MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor with the BIONZ XR processing engine to produce improved resolution, low noise and natural colour gradation. Its Fast Hybrid AF with Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking supports humans, animals and birds, while in-body image stabilisation provides up to 5.5 stops of shutter-speed compensation. For video, the camera offers 4K 60p full pixel readout, 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, All-Intra and XAVC HS formats, plus useful movie tools such as Breathing Compensation, AF Assist and Active Mode stabilisation.

Suitable for

  • Professional and enthusiast still photography (portraits, landscapes, events)
  • Wildlife and bird photography with advanced animal/bird-eye detection
  • Hybrid photo and video creators requiring 4K 60p and 10-bit 4:2:2 workflows
  • Live streaming and content creation using USB streaming or imaging apps

How to use

Attach a compatible E-mount lens and power on the camera. Use the Still/Movie/S&Q dial to switch operational modes and the touch-enabled vari-angle LCD for framing and Touch Tracking. Choose appropriate image quality and video recording settings in the menus (RAW/HEIF/JPEG for stills; Long GOP/All-Intra, 10-bit 4:2:2 for movies). Set subject-detection mode to human, animal or bird as needed to enable Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking. For live streaming, connect the camera via USB and select "Live Stream (USB Streaming)" from the USB function menu.

Usage recommendations

For best image quality, pair the α7 IV with high-quality E-mount lenses and use in-body stabilisation plus Active Mode for handheld video. When recording demanding scenes, choose 10-bit 4:2:2 or All-Intra for greater grading flexibility, and enable 5 GHz Wi‑Fi or wired FTP transfers for faster file delivery.
