Drill bits set STANLEY STA56001 — wood, 5 pcs (4, 5, 6, 8, 10 mm)
STANLEY STA56001 is a set of five wood drill bits with diameters 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 mm. These twist-type bits have a cylindrical shank and are designed for drilling soft and hardwoods using handheld and bench drills. The set covers common hole sizes for pilot holes, dowel seating, screws clearance and general woodworking tasks, providing a compact selection for workshop and on-site use.
The drill bits feature a twist flute design that facilitates chip evacuation and reduces clogging during wood drilling. Cylindrical shanks ensure compatibility with standard chucks on cordless, corded and bench drills. The five most commonly used diameters are included in a single set, which simplifies selection for routine woodworking operations and small installation jobs.
These bits are designed specifically for wood and are not optimized for metal, masonry or concrete. Using them on harder materials or at improper speeds may blunt the cutting edges quickly. For specialised tasks such as large-diameter boring, hinged mortises or precision cabinetry requiring brad-point bits, a different bit type may be preferable.
Select the drill bit with the required diameter for the intended hole. Secure the bit in the drill chuck, ensuring it is centred and tightened. Mark the drilling point on the workpiece and, if necessary, clamp the wood to prevent movement. Start drilling at low speed to establish the point, then increase to an appropriate speed while applying steady, moderate pressure. Retract occasionally to clear chips for deeper holes and finish with a controlled feed to avoid tear-out on the exit side.
Use appropriate drill speeds for the wood species (slower for hardwoods), clamp the workpiece to reduce vibration, and back the bit out periodically to clear chips. For clean exit holes, support the underside with a sacrificial backing board or finish drilling from both sides if precision is required.
