The StarTech.com 3ft (1m) USB-A to DB9 RS-232 adapter cable adds an RS-232 serial port to a laptop or desktop using an available USB Type-A port. Equipped with an FTDI IC for reliable USB-to-serial conversion, the cable provides a male DB9 connector and is designed for use with Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) such as desktops and laptops.

Advantages

This USB to Serial Adapter features COM retention to preserve and automatically reassign the COM port value after disconnects or reboots. It includes pre-installed slotted D-Sub thumbscrews and interchangeable DB-9 nuts for flexible mounting with a variety of serial devices and cables. LED indicators show data transmission, reception, and USB enumeration for real-time diagnostics. Rugged TPE construction, gold-plated connectors, copper shielding and Level-4 ESD protection (15kV air, 8kV contact) improve longevity and signal integrity.
