Cage nut M5 50-pack by StarTech – steel, black, 13×13×9 mm
StarTech M5 cage nuts, sold in a 50-piece pack, are steel fasteners with a black finish designed to secure M5-threaded screws in square or punched rack rails and equipment panels. Each cage nut measures 13×13×9 mm, providing a compact profile that fits standard 19-inch server racks, network cabinets and similar mounting frames. This bulk pack is intended for repeated installations and maintenance tasks where multiple M5 cage nuts are required.
The steel construction provides strength and resistance to deformation under repeated torque from M5 fasteners while the black finish offers corrosion protection and a consistent visual appearance in racks and cabinets. The 50-piece quantity reduces the need for frequent reordering and ensures a supply of spare nuts for new rack installs or repairs. The compact 13×13×9 mm dimensions make these cage nuts compatible with common punched and square-hole rail systems.
Align the cage nut with the square or punched hole in the rack rail or panel and compress the retaining tabs or press the nut into the opening until it snaps into place. Insert the M5 screw or machine bolt through the equipment mounting ear and thread into the captive nut. Tighten the fastener to the appropriate torque for your equipment to secure the mount; avoid excessive torque to prevent thread damage. To remove, back out the screw completely and depress the retaining tabs while pulling the nut clear of the rail.
Store unused cage nuts in a dry environment to minimise corrosion risk. When performing installations, keep spare nuts on hand to avoid delays, and verify thread engagement before finalising mounting to ensure secure and stable equipment attachment.
