The StarTech.com 2-Port PCI Express Serial Card 16C1050 UART RS232 (PEX2S1050) adds two RS232 DB9 serial ports to a desktop or server via a PCI Express slot. It uses the 16C1050 dual-channel UART chipset, supports both full-height and low-profile installations, and is compatible with PCIe slots of types 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x. The card is intended to connect serial-based equipment to modern systems that lack built-in RS232 ports and is CE, FCC and Microsoft WHQL certified.
This PCIe serial card provides two high-performance RS232 ports with data transfer rates up to 460.8 Kbps and reduced CPU load thanks to the 16C1050 UART, helping prevent communication errors such as overruns. It supports IRQ sharing and plug-and-play connections, includes both standard and low-profile brackets for easy installation, and is compatible with a broad range of Windows operating systems. The product is compact (0.061 kg) and backed by a 2-year warranty and lifetime technical support.
Power down the computer and insert the card into an available PCI Express slot that matches or supports the card. Secure the bracket to the chassis; swap the installed standard-profile bracket for the included low-profile bracket if required. Power on the system and install any necessary drivers for your Windows operating system if they do not install automatically. Connect serial devices to the DB9 ports using appropriate cables and configure the device COM settings (baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bits) to match the connected equipment.
For reliable communication, use quality shielded serial cables and verify COM port assignments in Device Manager. When deploying in critical systems, test both ports under expected load to confirm stable operation and set the baud rate to a supported maximum that avoids errors for your devices.
