Product information

Description

The Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (Model A067) is an ultra-telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount cameras that uniquely starts at a 50mm standard focal length and extends to 400mm, offering an 8x zoom range. Its optical design uses special elements including XLD, LD and Hybrid Aspherical glass to maintain high image quality across the entire zoom range while keeping the lens compact (183.4 mm length) and lightweight (1,155 g). With a close focusing distance of 0.25 m and a 67 mm filter thread, this lens is suitable for capturing both wide full-body shots and distant telephoto scenes with clarity and mobility.

Advantages

The lens combines a 50mm starting focal length with a 400mm maximum to deliver exceptional versatility for varied shooting situations. Special lens elements reduce chromatic aberration and ensure sharp, consistent image quality throughout the 50–400mm range. Despite its long reach, the lens remains compact and lightweight compared with conventional telephotos of similar range, making it easier to carry and handle for extended periods. The 24-element/18-group optical construction and minimum focus distance of 0.25 m add working flexibility for both near and distant subjects.

Suitable for

Wildlife and bird photography where both environmental context and distant subjects are needed
Sports and action photography requiring long reach
Travel and outdoor shooting when a single, compact zoom is preferred
Portraits and full-body shots at moderate distances

How to use

Attach the Tamron 50-400mm to a compatible Sony E-mount camera and set the focal length according to your subject: use shorter focal lengths (around 50 mm) for environmental and full-body shots, and longer focal lengths (200–400 mm) for distant subjects. Observe the minimum focus distance of 0.25 m when shooting close subjects. For stable telephoto shots, use a tripod or monopod when possible and enable any available image stabilization features on your camera. Use appropriate shutter speeds to compensate for camera shake at longer focal lengths.

Usage recommendations

For best results in telephoto work, combine the lens with a fast shutter speed and, where available, camera stabilization or support. Keep a 67 mm cleaning cloth and lens cap handy to protect the front element when shooting outdoors.
