Step drill bit Tvardy HSS M2 TiAlN 4–12 mm, model T03200
Step drill bit Tvardy HSS M2 TiAlN 4–12 mm, model T03200 is a single-piece stepped drill designed for creating progressively larger holes without changing tools. Made from high-speed steel M2 and finished with a titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coating, the bit covers diameters from 4 mm up to 12 mm in defined increments. It is intended for use with handheld drills and drill presses when working with thin sheet metal, plastics and other soft materials where clean stepped holes are required.
The HSS M2 core provides toughness and heat resistance for general-purpose metalworking, while the TiAlN coating increases surface hardness and improves wear and corrosion resistance, extending cutting life. The stepped single-piece profile enables fast enlargement of hole sizes with consistent concentricity and eliminates time lost to frequent tool changes. The geometry offers effective chip evacuation on thin materials and reduces the need for pilot drilling in many applications.
Secure the workpiece to prevent rotation or vibration. Fit the step drill bit into the drill chuck and tighten securely. Select a suitable rotational speed for the material (moderate speeds for metal, higher speeds for plastics) and apply steady, moderate feed pressure. Start drilling at the smallest step and advance until each subsequent step reaches the required diameter. Withdraw periodically to clear chips and avoid overheating; apply cutting fluid when working with metals to extend tool life.
For best performance when drilling metal, use a cutting fluid and operate at recommended speeds for HSS tools. When working with plastics, reduce speed and feed pressure to prevent melting. Inspect the drill bit after extended use and replace it when wear degrades hole quality.
