VARNISH VALLEJO 69.702 Art/Craft Transparent Matte Varnish 17 ml
VALLEJO 69.702 Mecha Varnish Matt is a transparent matte varnish in a 17 ml bottle formulated for art, craft, model and miniature applications. It provides a protective, non-reflective finish that seals painted surfaces and helps preserve fine surface detail while reducing sheen. The varnish is suitable for use over acrylic paints and is compatible with airbrushing or brush application when appropriately thinned.
The Mecha formulation offers strong adhesion and impact resistance, producing a durable, homogenous matte coating that maintains the original texture and fine details of the underlying plastic or painted surface. It resists abrasion, friction and handling, and dries to a satin/matte appearance that diminishes gloss without obscuring small details. The product is available in a range that includes primers and special topcoats intended for weathering and finishing techniques.
This matte varnish may not be appropriate when a glossy or high-gloss finish is desired, or when specific clearcoats with UV protection or specialized optical properties are required. Very porous or dirty surfaces should be cleaned and primed first to ensure proper adhesion and uniform appearance.
Apply the varnish over fully dried acrylic paint. For airbrush application dilute as needed with an appropriate thinner and adjust compressor pressure to approximately 15–20 PSI (0.5–1 kg/cm²) for smooth spraying. Multiple thin coats are recommended rather than a single heavy coat to achieve an even matte finish and good durability. The varnish can also be applied by brush; allow sufficient drying time between coats to build a uniform protective layer.
For best results when airbrushing, thin the varnish appropriately, maintain compressor pressure around 15–20 PSI, and clean the airbrush after use with a recommended airbrush cleaner to prevent clogging and preserve spray quality.
