Macro lens Venus Optics Laowa VE9028FE for MILC, 2x magnification, 13 elements/10 groups, 67 mm filter, 120 mm length
The Laowa VE9028FE 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO by Venus Optics is a compact macro lens designed for mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras (MILC) with full-frame sensors. Engineered for high-magnification close-up work, the lens offers up to 2:1 (2x) reproduction, an APO optical design with extra-low dispersion elements, and a compact form factor that balances excellent image quality with handheld convenience. With a 67 mm front filter thread and a 120 mm physical length, the lens is intended for product, nature and scientific macro photography where fine detail and color fidelity are important.
The Laowa 90mm f/2.8 provides true 2x magnification for capturing extremely small subjects with high resolution while retaining the ability to focus to infinity for greater versatility. Its apochromatic (APO) design with extra-low dispersion glass reduces lateral and longitudinal chromatic aberration, minimizing color fringing and ghosting even at high magnifications. The optical formula tailored for mirrorless systems allows a more compact and lightweight construction compared with traditional macro lenses of similar capability, and internal focusing prevents barrel extension and reduces the risk of front-element collision with subjects.
Mount the Laowa VE9028FE on a compatible mirrorless camera mount and set the lens to manual focus. For maximum magnification (2x), position the camera so the subject is near the minimum focusing distance (about 20.5 cm). Use a stable support such as a tripod or macro rail for precise framing at high magnifications, and adjust focus slowly while observing the subject in the viewfinder or on the camera’s live view. The aperture can be used to control depth of field; stopping down increases depth of field but may require longer exposures or higher ISO. Because focusing is manual, consider focus stacking multiple exposures if you need greater usable depth of field across the subject.
To achieve the best results with this 2x macro lens, use a tripod or focusing rail, illuminate the subject with controlled continuous or flash lighting to avoid motion blur, and employ focus stacking for subjects that require extended depth of field. Keep the front element clear of dust and avoid direct contact with delicate subjects; the internal focusing design helps reduce collision risk but careful positioning is still recommended.
