Macro lens Venus Optics Laowa VE9028RF for MILC, 120 mm length, 2× magnification, 67 mm filter, 13/10 elements/groups, black
Laowa VE9028RF by Venus Optics is a 90mm (nominal) macro lens designed for mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras (MILC). The lens has a physical length of 120 mm, a compact and lightweight build, and an optical design of 13 elements in 10 groups. It provides up to 2× magnification for extreme close-up imaging, a 67 mm front filter thread, and an apochromatic (APO) optical design that reduces chromatic aberration across the frame. The lens focuses down to approximately 0.205 m and supports focus to infinity, making it suitable for both high-magnification macro work and general close-range photography.
The Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO offers 2:1 magnification for detailed reproduction of small subjects and maintains high sharpness from center to corner across magnification ranges. The APO design with extra-low dispersion elements suppresses longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberration, reducing color fringing and the need for heavy post-processing. Its internal focusing prevents the front element from extending during use, improving durability and reducing the risk of collision with subjects. The compact size and relatively low weight make it easier to handle on mirrorless bodies compared with many equivalent macro lenses.
Mount the Laowa VE9028RF on a compatible mirrorless camera body and set the camera to manual or macro-friendly exposure modes. Use manual focus to position the plane of focus precisely on the subject; the lens offers internal focusing and a minimum working distance suitable for 2× magnification. Adjust aperture to control depth of field — smaller apertures increase depth but may require higher ISO or slower shutter speeds. For very high magnification work, consider using a tripod or focus-stacking techniques to achieve sufficient depth of field and optimal sharpness. Apply a 67 mm filter if protection or specific filters are required.
For stable results at 2× magnification, use a tripod or focusing rail and continuous lighting or a dedicated macro flash. When shooting live subjects, maintain a comfortable working distance, use a small aperture and focus-stacking when needed, and rely on the lens's APO performance to minimize chromatic aberration in high-contrast areas.
