Cable tester W-STAR WS468BU — UTP/STP, RJ45 & RJ11, for Cat5e–Cat7, blue
W-STAR WS468BU cable tester is a compact handheld tool designed for checking UTP and STP Ethernet and telephone cables with RJ45 and RJ11 connectors. Compatible with Cat5e through Cat7 cabling, the tester verifies conductor continuity, pinout mapping and common wiring faults such as open wires, short circuits and crossed pairs. A detachable remote unit enables testing of wall outlets and runs across different locations in buildings, making it suitable for installation, maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.
The WS468BU repeatedly tests individual conductors and displays results via sequential LEDs for quick identification of broken wires, reversed pairs and shorts. Two selectable test speeds (ON for fast, S for slow) allow precise fault diagnosis. Its compact form factor and lightweight design facilitate carrying between job sites, while the detachable external unit simplifies tracing and isolating faults at remote jacks. The unit accepts both RJ45 and RJ11 connectors and works with Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat7 cabling.
Insert a 9 V battery into the main unit and connect one end of the cable under test to the main unit's RJ45 or RJ11 socket and the other end to the detachable external remote unit. Set the selector to ON for a fast test or to S for a slow diagnostic cycle. Start the test and observe the LEDs on both units; LEDs light sequentially to indicate conductor continuity and correct pinout. If a particular LED fails to light, that conductor is open; reversed pairs will show LEDs out of normal sequence, and shorted conductors produce the described LED behaviors on both main and remote units. Use the detachable remote to test wall outlets and long cable runs by attaching it at the far end of the cable run.
Use a fresh 9 V battery for reliable results and retest after replacing the battery. For longer cable runs or intermittent faults, perform tests at both fast and slow settings to capture transient issues. When diagnosing complex faults, test each cable end separately and re-run tests after repairs. Store the detachable remote inside the main unit when not in use to protect contacts and simplify transport.
