Yato YT-47170 punch/nail set/drift is a set of seven hexagonal-profile punches made from chromium-vanadium steel CrV 6150 with a blackened surface finish. The set contains punches in a range of diameters and lengths suitable for driving, aligning, and removing pins, nails, and rivets in metalworking and mechanical assembly tasks. Packed as a 7-piece kit, these hardened tools offer consistent shapes and sizes for repeatable results when used with a hammer or mallet.
The CrV 6150 construction provides good toughness and wear resistance for impact tools. The blackened surface finish helps reduce glare and offers basic corrosion resistance. Hexagonal profiles ensure stable grip in storage and minimize rolling on workbenches. A range of diameters from 1.5 mm to 6 mm and varying lengths allow precise selection for different pin and nail sizes, improving control and reducing the risk of damaging surrounding material.
Select a punch with a diameter appropriate for the pin or nail to be driven or removed. Position the punch tip against the workpiece so the force is transmitted along the punch axis, then strike the blunt end with a hammer or mallet using controlled blows. For alignment tasks, insert the appropriate-size punch into the hole to shift components into position and tap gently until aligned. After use, wipe off debris and store the punches in a rack or toolbox to protect the tips and maintain the hexagonal profile to prevent rolling.
Use protective eyewear and gloves when working with impact tools. Avoid striking the punches with hardened or excessively large hammers that can cause mushrooming or chipping; dress any deformed ends before further use. For prolonged life, store in a dry place and apply a light corrosion-preventive oil to the blackened surface if the tools will be idle for extended periods.
