Copper shielding tape 3M Scotch 1245, 16.5 m × 19 mm, conductive adhesive
3M Scotch 1245 copper shielding tape, 16.5 m × 19 mm, is a thin, flexible copper foil tape with conductive adhesive designed for EMI/RFI shielding, grounding repairs and creating conductive overlaps in electronic assemblies. The tape combines a corrosion-resistant copper surface with a pressure-sensitive conductive adhesive to provide continuous electrical contact on irregular surfaces, instrument panels and within electrical enclosures. Its conformable construction allows application around corners, seams and cable bundles while maintaining reliable conductivity.
The tape provides effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI) attenuation due to the conductive copper layer and adhesive. It offers strong electrical continuity for grounding and shielding applications without the need for soldering, and its corrosion-resistant copper surface supports long-term performance in typical electronics environments. The product is supplied on a roll format for controlled application and can be cut to length for precise repairs or installations.
Clean and dry the surface to remove dust, oils and loose particles before applying the tape to ensure good electrical contact and adhesive performance. Measure and cut the required length, then apply the tape with firm pressure to conform it to the surface, smoothing out wrinkles and ensuring overlap at seams for continuous conductivity. Where grounding continuity is critical, ensure mechanical contact to the chassis or grounding point and verify conductivity with appropriate test equipment after installation.
Use the tape at ambient temperatures and avoid applying over heavily contaminated or painted surfaces unless the paint is removed at the contact points. For outdoor exposure or harsh environments, combine with appropriate sealing methods and verify corrosion resistance for the specific application. When reliable low-resistance grounding is required, confirm connections with an ohmmeter and supplement with mechanical fasteners if necessary.
