AKA 90° PE Elbow J-71 40 mm Socket 5/4" for Drainage and Plumbing
AKA 90° PE elbow J-71 with 40 mm outer diameter and a 5/4" socket is a polyethylene plumbing fitting designed to change flow direction by 90 degrees in drainage and wastewater systems. The fitting is intended for use in gravity drainage, soil and waste stacks, and other low-pressure plumbing applications where a corrosion-resistant, lightweight elbow is needed. Its smooth internal surface supports stable flow and reduces the risk of blockages when installed according to standard plumbing practices.
The PE construction provides chemical and corrosion resistance, low weight for easier handling, and dimensional stability across a typical range of temperatures for residential and light commercial installations. The socket connection accommodates a 5/4" mating pipe and facilitates a solvent-weld, gasketed or heat-fused joint depending on installation practice. The 90° angle enables compact routing where a change of direction is required without using multiple fittings.
Prepare mating pipes by cutting square, deburring and cleaning the joint surfaces. Select the appropriate joining method for the socket and pipe material—solvent cement, rubber gasket or heat fusion—following local plumbing codes and manufacturer recommendations for PE. Ensure proper alignment of the elbow to maintain flow direction, then secure the joint with the chosen method and allow any solvent or fusion joints to cure fully before testing. Perform a water tightness test at recommended test pressures for drainage systems after installation.
Store fittings away from prolonged UV exposure and protect from mechanical damage during handling. Use this PE elbow only in gravity or low-pressure drainage applications; do not subject to sustained internal pressures above typical drainage system levels or to direct contact with open flames or high-temperature sources. Follow local codes for bedding, support and spacing to prevent stress on joints.
