Hedge Clipper Shear AWTools AW63162
The AWTools AW63162 hedge clipper shear is a handheld garden tool weighing 1.9 kg designed for trimming hedges, shrubs and small branches. Hardened and ground carbon steel blades deliver precise cuts while a PTFE non-stick coating on the upper blade reduces friction during each stroke. The lower blade is chrome coated to resist wear, and a ratchet mechanism helps make gradual cuts through thicker branches. Extendable long arms increase reach for higher or deeper pruning tasks, and ergonomic aluminium handles coated with non-slip PP+TPR material improve grip and control. A plastic blade holder is provided for safe storage when the shear is not in use.
The tool combines hardened carbon steel blades with surface treatments — PTFE on the upper blade and chrome on the lower blade — to balance cutting performance and corrosion resistance while reducing sticking. The ratchet mechanism reduces hand strain when cutting thicker material by allowing staged pressure. Extendable arms and a compact weight of 1.9 kg make it practical for extended use and for reaching taller shrubs without a ladder. Ergonomic aluminium handles with a PP+TPR non-slip coating provide a secure, comfortable grip during prolonged tasks. A plastic blade holder keeps the blades covered for safe transport and storage.
Hold the hedge clipper with both hands on the ergonomic handles, positioning the blades over the branch or shoot to be cut. For thicker branches, operate the ratchet mechanism by applying pressure in stages until the branch is severed. Extend the arms when additional reach is required, making sure the extension locks are secure before cutting. Use smooth, consistent cutting motions for thin shoots and controlled ratcheting for tougher material. After use, wipe blades clean and slide the plastic blade holder over the blades to protect the edge and prevent accidental contact.
For best results, sharpen and inspect blades regularly, avoid cutting branches larger than the tool's designed capacity, and store the shear in a dry place away from moisture. Wear appropriate protective gloves and eye protection when pruning. Clean excess sap or debris from the PTFE-coated upper blade to maintain low friction and reapply light oil to the chrome-finished lower blade to prevent corrosion.
