Landscape fabric AWTools AW67140 – weed control ground cover textile
AWTools AW67140 landscape fabric is a ground cover textile designed to reduce weed growth and protect soil in garden beds, paths and around shrubs. Made of sturdy polypropylene, the fabric functions as a permeable barrier that blocks weeds while allowing air and water to pass through. Its construction maintains soil moisture and temperature, resists rotting and includes UV protection for extended outdoor use. Green alignment stripes help position plants and create straight rows when installing the fabric.
The material is durable and tear-resistant yet flexible enough for easy handling around plantings and borders. Permeability allows rainwater and irrigation to reach the root zone while preventing sunlight from encouraging weed germination. UV-resistant treatment reduces material degradation from sunlight exposure, and the polypropylene composition provides natural resistance to rot. The fabric controls weeds mechanically, avoiding chemical herbicides and helping maintain healthier soil biology.
Prepare the installation area by removing existing weeds and leveling the soil surface. Roll the landscape fabric out over the prepared soil, overlapping adjacent edges by at least 10–15 cm to prevent weed intrusion. Cut openings for plantings with a sharp knife or scissors and fold fabric edges back around the plant base. Secure the fabric to the ground with appropriate landscape staples or pins at regular intervals and cover with mulch, gravel or decorative stone as required to protect the fabric and improve appearance.
For best results, install the fabric on well-prepared, relatively flat soil and use a mulch layer of at least 5–7 cm to protect the fabric from mechanical wear and ultraviolet exposure. Periodically check anchor points and overlaps, and reposition or add staples if wind or foot traffic displaces the fabric. Avoid placing the fabric directly against the stems of young plants to prevent moisture-related stem issues.
