Landscape Fabric AWTools AW67142 anti-weed mat 90 g/m², 1.6 x 50 m, black
AWTools AW67142 anti-weed mat is a black landscape fabric with a mass of 90 g/m² and dimensions of 1.6 x 50 m. Designed for use in gardens, landscaping and horticulture, this permeable agrofabric suppresses weed growth while allowing air and water to pass through. Its woven structure reduces soil erosion and supports stable mulch or gravel layers, helping to minimise maintenance efforts around beds, pathways and planted areas.
The fabric combines a relatively high fabric weight with a stable woven construction that provides effective light blockage to inhibit weed emergence. Permeability to water and air preserves soil moisture balance and supports root respiration. The durable material is suitable for direct contact with soil and under mulch, gravel or paving, reducing the need for frequent weeding and decreasing long-term maintenance work.
Prepare the area by removing existing weeds and levelling the soil surface. Roll out the fabric with the woven side up and cut to fit the planting area, allowing overlaps of 10–20 cm at joints. Secure edges and overlaps with landscape staples or pegs at regular intervals. Make planting holes by cutting an X or circular openings where plants will be inserted, then fold back the fabric and plant. Cover exposed fabric with a protective layer of mulch, decorative stone or gravel to increase longevity and visual appearance.
For best results, inspect and re-secure the fabric after severe weather or frost heave. Use an appropriate layer of mulch or aggregate (3–8 cm for mulch, 4–10 cm for gravel depending on material) to protect the fabric from UV exposure and mechanical wear. Replace sections showing significant wear or tearing to maintain effective weed suppression.
