Axis T8129 PoE Extender with 2 Ethernet LAN RJ-45 ports

The Axis T8129 PoE Extender with 2 Ethernet LAN RJ-45 ports is designed to extend Ethernet and Power over Ethernet connections beyond the standard 100-meter limit for Axis network video products. This device allows security and surveillance installations to bridge greater distances without compromising network performance or data throughput. By utilizing a single PoE switch or midspan, the extender draws its operational power directly from the line, eliminating the need for local power supplies near the installation point.

Advantages

The Axis T8129 PoE extender provides a reliable solution for overcoming standard cable length limitations in professional surveillance networks. It maintains full-rate network throughput across the entire extended distance, ensuring that video streams and device communication remain stable and clear. Because it operates without any additional power supply, deployment is significantly simplified, reducing the hardware complexity and installation time associated with remote cameras. Furthermore, its automatic configuration for link speed, duplex, and crossover ensures seamless integration into existing network infrastructures.

Suitable for

• Extending Ethernet and PoE connections beyond 100 meters for network cameras
• Professional video surveillance installations requiring long cable runs
• Connecting remote Axis network video products without local power sources
• Scaling existing security networks by daisy-chaining multiple extenders for even greater distances

This extender may not be suitable for environments where total cable runs exceed the power budget limitations of the primary PoE source, as excessive distance and multiple connected devices can result in insufficient power delivery to the end equipment. It is also not designed for non-PoE network architectures that lack compatible IEEE 802.3af or IEEE 802.3at power sourcing equipment.

Key specifications

• 2 Ethernet LAN RJ-45 ports
• Complies with IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at standards
• Supports extended Ethernet and PoE connections beyond 100 meters
• Automatic configuration for link speed, duplex, and crossover
• Powered via PoE without requiring an external power supply

To use the Axis T8129 PoE extender, connect an Ethernet cable from your primary PoE switch or midspan to the input port of the extender. From the output port, run another Ethernet cable to your Axis network video product. Ensure that the total cable length between each network device adheres to the recommended extension guidelines, typically adding another segment for every additional 100 meters required. The device will automatically configure the link speed, duplex settings, and crossover upon receiving power from the network.

What to consider before purchase

• Verify that your primary power source complies with IEEE 802.3af or IEEE 802.3at standards
• Calculate the total power budget of your network camera to ensure adequate power delivery over extended cable lengths
• Check the maximum distance requirements for your specific surveillance setup
• Confirm compatibility with your existing Axis network video products

Always verify the power consumption of your connected network video products and the output capacity of your power sourcing equipment before deploying multiple extenders in a single cable run to ensure stable and uninterrupted operation.
