Bratek metal axe wedge KLIN METAL No.4 is a pack of ten metal wedges designed to secure axe heads to wooden handles. Engineered for mechanical fastening, these wedges create a tight fit between the axe eye and the haft, minimising movement and improving safety during use. The product is intended for assembly and maintenance of axes, suitable for workshop repairs, forestry tool upkeep and DIY handle replacement.
These metal wedges offer consistent dimensions and strength for reliable clamping of axe heads. Made from hardened metal, they resist deformation under hammering and provide a durable mechanical lock that helps prevent loosening during repeated impact. Supplied in a pack of ten, they support multiple repairs or replacements and are compatible with standard wooden hafts where a No.4 wedge is specified.
Drive the wedge into the pre-slit top of the wooden haft protruding through the axe eye using a suitable hammer. Ensure the haft is correctly seated and the wedge aligns with the split to expand the wood and lock the axe head in place. Trim any excess haft above the wedge and, if required, peen the wedge slightly to increase holding force. Follow safe working practices, wearing eye protection and securing the axe head while installing the wedge.
For reliable fixation, select a wedge size that matches the axe eye and haft dimensions and replace wedges showing severe deformation or corrosion. Store unused wedges dry to prevent surface rust and inspect the assembled connection periodically for tightness before use.
