Network switch Cisco C8500L-8S4X — Managed, 12× Gigabit RJ-45, 8× SFP, 4× SFP+, 1U rack-mount
The Cisco C8500L-8S4X is a managed 1U rack-mount network switch designed for enterprise routing and switching. It provides 12 Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) RJ-45 ports, eight SFP ports and four SFP+ ports with 10G support, enabling mixed copper and fiber connectivity. Built as part of the Cisco Catalyst 8500 Series Edge Platforms, the device targets aggregation, core or distribution roles in data center and campus networks and supports accelerated services, multi-layer security and cloud-edge integration.
The switch offers flexible port density combining 12 copper Gigabit ports with eight SFP and four SFP+ fiber ports, allowing heterogeneous uplink and access configurations. As a managed unit, it delivers advanced control and monitoring capabilities for network administrators and supports 10G connectivity on SFP+ ports for higher-bandwidth links. The 1U rack form factor and a weight of 7.71 kg make the device suitable for standard rack deployments while minimizing space usage in aggregation or core racks.
Install the Cisco C8500L-8S4X in a standard 19-inch equipment rack occupying 1U of space and secure it according to rack-mount instructions. Connect copper devices to the Gigabit RJ-45 ports and connect fiber uplinks or aggregation links to the SFP and SFP+ ports, using appropriate transceivers and fiber cabling for the desired speeds. Configure the switch through its management interface using CLI or supported network management tools, apply VLANs, routing policies and security settings as required for the deployment scenario.
Use quality SFP/SFP+ transceivers and certified fiber or copper cables to ensure signal integrity. For deployments requiring high throughput, place critical links on SFP+ 10G ports and enable appropriate QoS and security features. Ensure firmware and management software are kept up to date and follow Cisco configuration guidelines for redundancy, monitoring and access control.
