SFP Transceiver Module Cisco GLC-SX-MMD — 1000BASE-SX, Multimode 1GbE, LC, 850 nm, 550 m, DDM
The Cisco GLC-SX-MMD compatible SFP transceiver module provides 1GbE optical connectivity for devices with SFP ports. Designed for 1000BASE-SX multimode fiber links, it operates at an 850 nm wavelength and supports duplex LC connections with a maximum link distance of up to 550 meters. The module supports Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) and features an aluminium housing with low power consumption, making it suitable for use in switches and routers that require a compact, hot-swappable multimode optical interface.
This SFP transceiver delivers reliable Gigabit Ethernet performance over multimode fiber while maintaining a compact SFP form factor compatible with Cisco GLC-SX-MMD ports. Low typical power consumption (under 1 W) and an aluminium housing contribute to energy-efficient operation and effective thermal handling. Built-in DDM provides real-time monitoring of optical parameters to help maintain link health. The hot-swappable design allows replacement or upgrades without powering down equipment, minimizing network downtime.
Install the module into an available SFP slot on a compatible switch or router until it latches. Connect a duplex LC multimode fiber patch cable between the transceiver and the corresponding port on the remote device, observing correct transmit/receive orientation. The device should detect the module and establish a 1GbE link; confirm link status using the host device interface and verify DDM parameters if supported. To replace the module, remove it while the system is running (hot-swap) and insert the replacement, then recheck link operation.
Use OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber to maximize reliable reach and performance within the specified 550 m distance. Keep fiber connectors and the transceiver optical interface clean to avoid signal degradation. Verify compatibility with the host device firmware and enable DDM monitoring for proactive link diagnostics. Store spare modules in anti-static packaging and avoid mechanical stress on the LC connectors and cables.
