Residual current circuit breaker 4P 40A 30mA Type A EATON xPole Home HNC-40/4/003-A is a 4-pole residual current device (RCD) rated for 40 A with 30 mA residual current sensitivity and Type A detection. It is designed to detect and disconnect in the presence of earth leakage and pulsating DC or AC fault currents in TN and TT electrical systems. The device is intended for installation in residential distribution boards and provides protection for single- and multi-phase circuits.
The device offers selective residual-current protection across four poles, enabling protection of three phases plus neutral in one compact module. Type A detection extends safety to include AC and pulsating DC leakage currents that may occur with modern electronic loads. The 30 mA sensitivity balances personal protection against nuisance tripping, making it suitable for living spaces while meeting common safety standards. Installation into standard DIN-rail distribution boards is supported by its compact form factor and conventional terminal arrangement.
Mount the device on a standard 35 mm DIN rail inside the distribution board and connect the incoming supply to the line terminals and outgoing circuits to the load terminals according to the electrical schematic. Ensure correct orientation of phase and neutral conductors and tighten terminals to the manufacturer's recommended torque. Verify that the supply is de-energized before installation and perform an insulation and continuity check of the installation. After wiring, restore supply and test the RCD operation using a suitable test button or an external RCD tester to confirm trip at or below the rated residual current.
Use this residual current device as part of a complete protective system: combine with appropriate overcurrent protection, correct cable sizing, and proper earthing. Test the device periodically (for example, monthly using the built-in test function) and after any significant electrical work. If the device trips repeatedly, investigate and rectify the underlying fault—do not bypass or disable the device.
