Fibre optic pigtail Extralink SC/UPC G.657.A1 900µm FTTH 2 m (Easy Strip)
Extralink SC/UPC G.657.A1 900µm FTTH 2 m pigtail is a single-mode fibre optic pigtail designed for indoor fibre terminations and splicing. The assembly features an SC/UPC connector on one end and a factory-prepared stripped fibre on the other for reliable fusion or mechanical splicing. The G.657.A1 bend-insensitive single-mode fibre combined with a 900 µm tight buffer ensures compatibility with FTTH installations, patch panels and optical distribution frames. The Easy Strip design simplifies buffer removal during preparation, reducing handling time and risk of fibre damage.
The pigtail provides low insertion loss and consistent return loss through a factory-terminated SC/UPC connector, ensuring predictable optical performance in single-mode networks. Its G.657.A1 profile improves bend tolerance compared with standard single-mode fibres, allowing tighter routing in confined spaces. The 900 µm buffered fibre offers mechanical protection during handling and splicing, while the Easy Strip feature speeds up preparation and reduces the chance of nicking the glass. Factory polishing and connector housing deliver repeatable connections suitable for terminations in indoor enclosures and patch panels.
Prepare the pigtail by removing the specified length of the 900 µm buffer using the Easy Strip design to expose the bare fibre, following standard fibre handling and safety procedures. Align and fusion-splice the stripped end to the prepared distribution fibre or use a suitable mechanical splice. After splicing, install appropriate splice protection (heat-shrink sleeve or splice protector) and secure the pigtail inside the splice tray or patch panel. Connect the SC/UPC connector to the equipment or adapter, and verify optical continuity and loss with appropriate test equipment.
Handle the bare fibre with care, use proper fibre pigtail preparation tools, and perform splicing in a clean environment to minimise attenuation and ensure long-term reliability. Select splice protectors and routing that avoid sharp bends and maintain the bend radius benefits of G.657.A1 fibre.
