Fiber optic transceiver module HPE 100Gb QSFP28 MPO SR4 100m
The HPE 100Gb QSFP28 MPO SR4 100m transceiver module provides 100 Gb/s optical connectivity for data center interconnects. It uses a QSFP28 interface and an MPO connector for multi-mode fiber, supports transmission at 850 nm, and is specified for up to 100 m on OM4 (up to 70 m on OM3). The compact module is intended to reduce port density and lower cost per bit for high-bandwidth networking.
This transceiver supports 100 Gb performance by aggregating four 25 Gb lanes, enabling fewer ports and hardware components to achieve higher throughput. The MPO connector and SR4 optics allow straightforward multi-mode fiber deployment, while low bit-error rate (BER < 10^-15) and modest power consumption (typical 3.5 W, supply 3.3 V) contribute to reliable, efficient operation. Reduced cost per bit can help lower both CapEx and OpEx for interconnect links.
Install the QSFP28 module into a compatible switch or transceiver slot following the host equipment manufacturer’s hot-swap and handling procedures. Connect a multi-mode fiber cable with an MPO connector to the module, ensuring correct fiber polarity and type (OM3 or OM4) for the intended reach. Verify link status and speed in the switch management interface and monitor for errors; replace fiber or module if BER or link stability issues occur.
Use OM4 multimode fiber when possible to achieve the full 100 m reach at 100 Gb/s; maintain proper MPO cleaning and connector care to preserve low BER. Confirm compatibility of the QSFP28 module with the host switch firmware and transceiver compatibility list before deployment.
