Managed Switch HPE 5412R zl2
The HPE 5412R zl2 is a managed Layer 3 campus access switch designed for enterprise networks requiring high capacity and resilience. Based on the sixth-generation HP Networking ASIC, it offers a 2 Tbps switching fabric, low latency and comprehensive L2/L3 feature set with no extra software license required. The switch supports multi-gigabit connectivity, extensive PoE+ ports, 10GbE and 40GbE uplinks and is SDN-ready with OpenFlow support, making it suitable for converged mobile campus deployments and high-density wired and wireless access environments.
The HPE 5412R zl2 provides high switching capacity and low latency together with hardware-based classification and policy enforcement for reliable performance under load. It includes advanced resiliency features such as nonstop switching and routing, redundant management and power options, and hot-swappable modules for minimal service disruption. Built-in security and dynamic QoS features — including 802.1X, MACSec (on select modules), DHCP snooping, IP source guard, ARP protection and ACL-based controls — support robust network protection and traffic prioritization. Management integrates with HPE Intelligent Management Center and supports RMON, XRMON and sFlow for monitoring and diagnostics.
Install the HPE 5412R zl2 in a standard 19-inch rack and populate modules according to your port and power requirements. Connect uplinks and access devices using the supported copper or fiber interfaces (1GbE, 10GbE, 40GbE). Configure basic system settings, management IP and VLANs through the CLI or HPE Intelligent Management Center. Enable required L2/L3 protocols (OSPF, BGP, PBR) and security features (802.1X, DHCP snooping, MACSec where available). For high availability, deploy redundant management modules and power supplies and configure nonstop forwarding and appropriate HA protocols.
For optimal performance in a converged campus, match module choices to your anticipated port density and PoE budget, keep firmware updated, and integrate the switch with HPE IMC for centralized monitoring and policy enforcement. Use redundant power and management modules in critical environments and enable hardware-based QoS and security features to protect edge services.
