Switch HP Enterprise HPE Aruba CX 8100 — Managed L3, 40x 10GBase-T RJ‑45, 8x 10G SFP+, 4x 40/100G QSFP28, 1U, 2x AC PSUs, 3 fans
The HPE Aruba Networking CX 8100 is a compact 1U managed Layer 3 switch designed for campus core, aggregation, and top-of-rack data center roles. It combines a mix of 40 x 10G Base-T RJ-45 ports, 8 x 10G SFP+ ports and 4 x 40/100G QSFP28 ports, with support for 4x10G and 4x25G breakout from 40/100G interfaces. The switch runs AOS-CX, a modern, modular operating system that offers programmability, embedded analytics, and high-availability features to support mobile, cloud and IoT workloads.
AOS-CX provides REST APIs and Python scripting for automation and integration, while the embedded Aruba Network Analytics Engine delivers real-time visibility and telemetry for proactive troubleshooting. The platform uses a microservices architecture with continual state synchronization and dual control-plane support to reduce service disruption and improve fault tolerance. High-density line-rate 1/10/40/100GbE connectivity in a 1U form factor supports mixed copper and fiber deployments and simplifies consolidation at the campus core or ToR layer.
This switch is targeted at enterprise and data center environments; it may be oversized or more feature-rich than necessary for small offices or simple unmanaged switching needs. Additionally, if an environment requires only low-port-count or solely 1GbE ports, a different lower-capacity model could be more cost-effective.
Install the 1U chassis in a standard rack and connect AC power supplies. Use the console port or network management interfaces to access AOS-CX for initial configuration. Configure VLANs, routing, QoS, ACLs and other L3 services as required. Use REST APIs or Python scripts to automate provisioning and integrate with orchestration tools such as Aruba Fabric Composer. Monitor performance and health with the embedded Network Analytics Engine and Time Series Database for telemetry and trend analysis.
Deploy the CX 8100 in aggregation or ToR roles where a mix of high-density 10G ports and 40/100G uplinks is required. Enable the Aruba Network Analytics Engine and REST API access during commissioning to capture telemetry and automate routine tasks, and consider dual power supplies and VSX configurations for critical high-availability needs.
