Media Converter Intellinet Gigabit Ethernet WDM Bi-Directional 545068
The Intellinet Network Solutions Gigabit Ethernet WDM (bi-directional wavelength division multiplexing) Media Converter uses a single strand of single‑mode fiber to carry transmit and receive traffic on separate wavelengths (1550/1310 nm). It converts 10/100/1000Base‑Tx copper Ethernet to 1000Base‑Lx fiber while remaining transparent to the network, enabling copper and fiber segments to interoperate without altering existing network behavior. The unit features an SC fiber connector, metal housing, and supports link distances up to 20 km at a maximum data rate of 1000 Mbit/s.
This media converter allows doubling capacity or establishing two independent connections over one fiber strand by using bi‑directional WDM, eliminating the need to install a second fiber cable. It extends the reach between networking devices and provides building‑to‑building connectivity without additional routers. The compact metal housing and low power consumption (5 W) make it suitable for desktop, wall‑mount, or rack‑mount deployment using a compatible chassis. Compliance with FCC Class A and CE standards ensures regulatory compatibility for professional network environments.
Connect the RJ‑45 port to your copper Ethernet device (switch, router, or NIC) and insert the SC fiber connector into the fiber port using the appropriate single‑mode patch cable. Ensure the fiber link uses the correct WDM wavelengths (1550/1310 nm) and observe transmit/receive orientation if required by the opposite endpoint. Power the converter and verify link/activity LEDs to confirm the connection; the device operates transparently and does not require additional configuration.
For reliable long‑distance links, use single‑mode fiber of appropriate attenuation rating, keep connectors clean, and use compatible WDM transceivers or a matching bi‑directional converter on the remote end. Install units in ventilated locations and, if mounting multiple converters, use the 19" rack‑mount chassis designed for these modules to ensure proper spacing and cooling.
