The Korg Volca Kick is an analog kick generator designed for sound design and live performance. Using an analog circuit derived from the MS-20 filter's self-oscillation, it produces a wide range of kick tones from tight kick drums to pitched kick bass. The unit includes a 16-step sequencer with realtime recording, pattern chaining, motion sequencing, and the new Touch FX feature for instant effect control. Compact, battery-powered and equipped with a built-in speaker and MIDI In, it can be used standalone or synchronized with other gear.

How to use

Create kick sounds by adjusting the MS-20 resonator parameters (Pitch, Bend, Time) to set the tonal body, modify Pulse Colour and Level for attack characteristics, and shape decay with Amp Attack and Decay. Use Drive and Tone to add distortion and alter high-frequency content. Program patterns on the 16-step sequencer, record knob movements with the motion sequence function, and chain patterns for longer arrangements. Play pitched bass lines with the 16-key touch panel and apply Touch FX by touching step keys during playback to generate rolls, octave shifts or sustained notes.

Usage recommendations

For tight dance kicks, use shorter resonator Time and faster Amp Decay with moderate Drive. For deep kick bass, lower the pitch, increase resonator Time and use Slide for smooth pitch transitions. Synchronize the Volca Kick with other volca units or a MIDI controller to integrate it into larger setups.
