The LevelOne Copper SFP Transceiver (model SFP-3841) converts a 1000BASE-X optical Ethernet port to a 1000BASE-T copper RJ-45 port, enabling up to 1.25 Gbps data transfer over unshielded twisted-pair Category 5 cable for distances up to 100 meters. It is designed for SFP interfaces and has compact dimensions (57 mm x 12 mm x 13.7 mm), an input voltage of 3.3 V and typical power dissipation of about 1.05 W. The module is CE and FCC certified and intended for integration into networking equipment that accepts SFP transceivers.
The transceiver supports bi-directional data links up to 1.25 Gbps and is hot-pluggable in an SFP footprint for easy replacement or upgrades. Its fully metallic enclosure reduces electromagnetic interference and the extended operating case temperature range (0 °C to +70 °C) improves reliability in a variety of environments. The compact RJ-45 connector assembly and access to the physical layer IC via a 2-wire serial bus simplify installation and monitoring. Low typical power consumption (1.05 W) minimizes thermal load on the host device.
Insert the LevelOne Copper SFP transceiver into an available SFP slot on the host device while the host is powered according to the equipment manual (the module is hot-pluggable). Connect a Cat5/5e/6 unshielded twisted-pair cable to the RJ-45 connector and to the remote Ethernet device. Ensure the host system supports 1000BASE-T operation over an SFP interface or SERDES as required. Use the host device or management software to verify link negotiation and speed; access to the physical layer IC via the 2-wire serial bus enables additional monitoring if supported by the host.
Use Category 5 or better UTP cable for runs up to 100 m, maintain proper cable management to avoid excessive bend radius and interference, and verify compatibility with the host SFP slot and firmware. Do not expose the module to conditions outside the specified operating temperature range.
