Splitting Axe MODECO MN-64-029, 2 kg head, wooden handle, 800 mm
Splitting Axe MODECO MN-64-029 is a manual wood-splitting tool with a 2 kg forged steel head and an 800 mm wooden handle. Designed for splitting firewood and logs, this axe combines a heavy striking head with a long wooden haft to increase leverage and impact force during each swing. The tool is intended for domestic and outdoor tasks such as preparing firewood, clearing small branches and processing medium-sized timber by hand.
The 2 kg steel head provides substantial mass for efficient energy transfer into the wood, reducing the number of strikes required to split logs. The 800 mm wooden handle offers comfortable reach and control while preserving a traditional balance between weight and maneuverability. The forged head geometry is shaped to facilitate controlled splitting and to help prevent the axe from becoming stuck in the timber. The wooden handle absorbs some vibration, improving user comfort during extended use.
Hold the axe with both hands—one hand near the base of the handle and the other hand moved up toward the head during the backswing for control and power. Position the log on a stable chopping block or firm ground. Aim for cracks or the edge of the log and bring the axe down in a controlled, powerful swing. If the axe becomes lodged, lift it slightly and strike the head with a wooden mallet or rotate the log to free the blade. Inspect the handle and head connection before each use to ensure the head is secure.
For safe, long-term use, store the axe in a dry place and keep the wooden handle treated with linseed oil or a similar protective finish to prevent drying and splitting. Regularly sharpen the cutting edge and check the head-to-handle fit. Use protective equipment such as safety boots and eye protection when splitting wood, and avoid working on unstable surfaces.
