Managed Switch Moxa EtherDevice EDS-408A
The Moxa EtherDevice EDS-408A is an entry-level managed Ethernet switch with eight RJ-45 ports, designed for industrial networking. It provides managed-switch features such as Turbo Ring rapid recovery, VLAN, QoS, RMON, SNMP, port mirroring, and options for email or relay alarms. The switch is available in regular and extended temperature models, supports dual redundant DC power inputs, and can be mounted on DIN-rail or panel, making it suitable for installation in industrial environments.
The EDS-408A supports Turbo Ring with plug-and-play default settings and recovery times under 20 ms at full load, plus RSTP/STP for ring protection. Management features include port-based VLAN, IEEE 802.1p/1Q QoS and TOS/DiffServ, RMON for monitoring, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 for varying security levels. Industrial design highlights include IP30 rugged housing, optional extended operating temperature (-40 to 75°C), long-haul fiber options (up to 40 km), ABC-01 automatic backup configurator support, port mirroring for debugging, automatic IP recovery, patented line-swap fast recovery, and multiple configuration methods (web browser, Telnet/serial, Windows utility).
Install the EDS-408A onto a DIN-rail or mount it on a panel, and connect the DC power supplies to the redundant power inputs. Connect Ethernet devices to the RJ-45 ports. For immediate operation, use the plug-and-play default settings with Turbo Ring enabled; for customized network behavior, access the switch via the web-based management interface, Telnet, serial console, or the Windows utility to configure VLANs, QoS, SNMP, RMON, and alarm settings. Use port mirroring and ABC-01 backup tools for debugging and configuration backup as needed.
Use the EDS-408A in networks that require deterministic performance and fast ring recovery; enable QoS and port-based VLANs to prioritize traffic, and configure SNMP/RMON for proactive monitoring. For installations in extreme temperatures choose the extended model, and consider redundant power and proper grounding to enhance reliability.
