Serial Converter Repeater Isolator Moxa TCF-142-M-ST
The Moxa TCF-142-M-ST is a compact serial converter/repeater/isolator that converts RS-232 or RS-422/485 serial interfaces to optical fiber. Designed for industrial serial links, the TCF-142-M-ST supports multi-mode fiber connections and extends serial transmission distances up to 5 km. It accepts 12–48 V input power, has a small footprint (67 x 100 x 22 mm), and is certified to EN, FCC and UL/CUL/TUV safety standards for reliable operation in electrically noisy environments.
The device offers automatic baudrate detection to maintain data flow even if the connected device’s baudrate changes. It supports both point-to-point and ring topologies, with ring operation allowing fiber rings up to 100 km in circumference. The TCF-142-M-ST includes Moxa’s patented Automatic Data Direction Control (ADDC®) for RS-485, eliminating the need for manual handshaking for direction control. Its compact size and isolation reduce electrical interference and chemical corrosion risks, and wide-temperature models are available for harsh environments.
Mount the converter in a suitable location and connect the power supply within the specified 12–48 VDC range. Select the required serial interface mode (RS-232 or RS-422/485) using the device switches; the unit cannot convert both simultaneously. Connect the multi-mode fiber using the ST connector to the Tx/Rx ports. For ring operation, link the Tx of one unit to the Rx of the neighboring unit and set each converter to "ring mode" via DIP switches. The unit will automatically detect the serial baudrate and, for RS-485 lines, manage data direction using ADDC®.
For reliable operation, use quality multi-mode fiber and proper ST connectors, ensure power supply within the 12–48 V range, and configure DIP switches according to whether you need point-to-point or ring topology. Choose a wide-temperature model if deploying in extreme temperature conditions.
