Managed L2+ Switch TP-Link Omada SG3218XP-M2 — 16× 2.5G RJ‑45, 2× 10G SFP+, 8× PoE+
TP-Link Omada SG3218XP-M2 is a managed L2+ switch designed for mid-sized wired and wireless networks. It provides sixteen 2.5G RJ-45 ports, two 10G SFP+ uplinks and eight PoE+ 2.5G ports to deliver data and power over a single cable. The switch supports a 16,000-entry MAC table, 120 Gbit/s switching capacity and standard L2 protocols such as STP/RSTP/MSTP, making it suitable for rack-mounted access aggregation, AP and IP camera deployments and environments that require multi-gigabit edge connectivity.
The Omada SG3218XP-M2 combines multi-gigabit 2.5G access ports and 10G uplinks in a 1U rack form factor while offering managed L2+ features and PoE+ power distribution. Centralized management through Omada SDN and support for static routing and advanced QoS allow for efficient traffic control. Security and resilience functions such as ACLs, IP-MAC-Port binding, DHCP snooping and DoS protection contribute to stable, controllable network operation.
This switch is optimized for networks needing multi-gigabit access and PoE+ on multiple ports; it may be oversized for very small home networks or deployments that require only basic unmanaged switching. If your environment requires large numbers of 10G ports or advanced full L3 routing features beyond static routes, a core router or higher-end L3 switch may be more appropriate.
Install the SG3218XP-M2 in a standard 19-inch rack using the included brackets or place it on a shelf. Connect edge devices such as access points, IP cameras and workstations to the 2.5G RJ-45 ports; connect uplinks to your core switch or server via the 10G SFP+ slots. Configure basic network settings through the web GUI or Omada SDN controller: create VLANs using 802.1Q, set up QoS profiles, enable PoE on required ports and apply ACLs or 802.1X authentication as needed. Use static routes for simple inter-VLAN routing and monitor traffic and device status through the Omada cloud or local management interface.
For optimal performance, connect WiFi 6/6E/7 access points and high-bandwidth endpoints to the 2.5G PoE+ ports, reserve the 10G SFP+ uplinks for aggregation to core switches or servers, and manage configurations centrally via Omada SDN to apply consistent VLAN, QoS and security policies across the network.
