Network Media Converter PLANET FT-801
The PLANET FT-801 is a Fast Ethernet media converter that connects 100BASE-FX fiber links to 10/100BASE-TX shielded twisted-pair (STP) copper networks. It supports both half-duplex and full-duplex operation and adapts automatically to the highest performance mode supported by the connected STP device. The FT-801 is available in multimode and single-mode fiber options, with the fiber port operating at 1310 nm and using ST connectors. The device is housed in a metal casing and is designed for reliable wired connectivity with a maximum 100 Mbit/s data rate and up to 2000 m multimode fiber reach.
The converter auto-negotiates duplex mode with the connected STP device to deliver either nominal 100Mbps in half-duplex or up to 200Mbps equivalent bandwidth in full-duplex. An override switch allows manual selection of half/full-duplex on the fiber interface. Built-in Link Fault Pass-through (LFP) functions — Link Loss Carry Forward (LLCF) and Link Loss Return (LLR) — provide immediate signalling of link loss events to aid network monitoring and troubleshooting. The compact metal enclosure and standard RJ-45 and ST connectors make the FT-801 suitable for integration into existing network infrastructures.
Install the FT-801 on a stable surface and connect the 100BASE-FX multimode fiber using an ST connector to the fiber port. Connect the 10/100BASE-TX STP copper cable to the RJ-45 port. Apply the appropriate 5 V DC power supply (5 V, 2 A). The converter will auto-negotiate duplex and speed with the connected copper device; use the override switch if manual duplex control on the fiber side is required. Monitor link status LEDs and, if necessary, enable or disable the LFP function via the DIP switch according to your monitoring needs.
Use multimode fiber with correct 1310 nm transceivers and ST connectors to achieve the specified 2000 m reach. When deploying in managed networks, enable LLCF/LLR to provide immediate link-fault indication to upstream devices and monitoring systems. Verify that the power adapter matches the device’s 5 V / 2 A requirement and secure cables to avoid accidental disconnection.
