Product information

Description

The Managed L2+ Gigabit Ethernet Switch PLANET GS-5220-16S8CR is a 1U rack-mount switch designed for high-density fiber and copper networks. It provides a 128 Gbps switching fabric, Layer 3 IPv4 VLAN routing, multiple SFP and SFP+ uplinks, and redundant AC/DC power inputs (100–240V AC and 36–72V DC). The switch supports IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack management, SFP digital diagnostic monitoring, and several management interfaces including Web, console, Telnet, SSHv2 and SNMPv3 for secure remote administration.

Advantages

The GS-5220-16S8CR delivers wire-speed throughput with four SFP+ ports supporting multiple speeds (10G/2.5G/1G/100M) and a high-density design combining 8 Gigabit RJ-45 ports with numerous SFP interfaces. It includes advanced Layer 2 features such as link aggregation, 802.1Q/Q-in-Q, MSTP, IGMP/MLD snooping and LLDP, plus QoS and traffic management for voice and video. Built-in cybersecurity functions (DHCP snooping, IP Source Guard, DAI, RADIUS/TACACS+, SSHv2/TLS/SNMPv3) and redundant power inputs increase reliability for ISP, enterprise and telecom environments.

Suitable for

  • ISP and carrier edge aggregation
  • Enterprise core or distribution switches for VoIP and video streaming
  • Industrial and telecom installations requiring DC power support
  • Remote sites managed via centralized NMS (UNI-NMS, NMSViewerPro, CloudViewerPro)

Key specifications

  • Switching capacity: 128 Gbps
  • MAC address table: 16,000 entries
  • Ports: 8 x Gigabit RJ-45, multiple SFP slots, 4 x SFP+ (supports 10G/2.5G/1G/100M)
  • Power: 100–240V AC and 36–72V DC redundant inputs
  • Form factor: 1U rack-mount, weight 3.495 kg
  • Standards: IEEE 802.1D/Q/ab/p/s/w/x, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab/3z/3ad, 802.1x

How to use

Install the switch in a standard 19-inch rack (1U). Connect the AC and/or DC power sources according to site power availability to enable redundant power. Insert suitable SFP or SFP+ transceivers depending on required distance and speed (10GBASE-SR/LR, 2500BASE-X, 1000BASE-SX/LX, 100BASE-FX supported on SFP+ ports). Configure VLANs, Layer 3 IPv4 routing between VLANs, QoS profiles, and link aggregation via the Web GUI, CLI (console or Telnet) or SNMPv3 for remote management. Monitor SFP transceivers with the DDM function to check optical parameters and use ERPS/MSTP to set up redundant rings for fast recovery.

Usage recommendations

For reliable operation in carrier or industrial environments, deploy both AC and DC power inputs where possible, choose SFP/SFP+ transceivers that match link distance and speed requirements, and enable SNMPv3 or SSHv2/TLS for secure remote management. Use ERPS and MSTP for ring resilience and configure QoS and storm control to protect voice and video services.
