The PLANET GSD-803 Gigabit Ethernet switch is an 8-port, wire-speed network switch designed for home, SOHO and small workgroup environments. Housed in a compact metal case and supporting 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiation on all RJ-45 ports, it delivers a 16 Gbit/s switching capacity and a MAC address table suitable for typical Gigabit upgrades while remaining wall-mountable and energy-efficient.

Advantages

The GSD-803 integrates two Green Networking technologies to reduce power consumption by up to 40% while preserving gigabit performance. Hibernation Link Down automatically lowers power for ports that are not linked, and an intelligent cable-length detection algorithm scales port power according to cable length to save additional energy. The switch provides wire-speed packet forwarding with a 16 Gbit/s switching fabric and a MAC address table to handle typical small network loads without packet loss.

How to use

Install the switch on a flat surface or mount it on a wall using appropriate screws. Connect each network device using Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6 cables to the RJ-45 ports; the switch will auto-negotiate link speed and detect cable type (auto-MDI/MDI-X). Plug the supplied DC power adapter into the switch and a power outlet. Ports that are not connected will automatically enter the Hibernation Link Down state and the switch will adjust port power according to detected cable lengths.

Usage recommendations

For best energy savings and performance, use Cat5e or Cat6 cables shorter than 20 m where possible to allow the intelligent cable-length power scaling to reduce power consumption while maintaining Gigabit throughput. Place the switch in a ventilated area and avoid covering ventilation openings.
