Network Media Converter PLANET VC-232G
The PLANET VC-232G is a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet over Coaxial converter designed to transmit Ethernet traffic over existing coaxial cables. It provides one 1000BASE-T RJ45 port and one BNC female connector in a compact metal housing. Supporting data rates up to a total duplex throughput of 300 Mbps and reach up to 1.4 km, the VC-232G is intended for extending Ethernet to devices such as HD IP cameras, wireless access points, NVRs and digital signage without installing new UTP cabling.
The converter enables long-distance IP Ethernet over deployed coaxial infrastructure, reducing the need for new cable installation and lowering deployment costs. It supports two transmission modes—asymmetric and symmetric—so administrators can choose higher downstream capacity for short-range links or balanced up/down throughput for symmetric traffic. The unit is compact, uses a robust metal enclosure, and can operate in either CPE or CO mode for flexible point-to-point deployments.
Install one VC-232G at each end of the coaxial link and set one unit to CPE mode and the other to CO mode using the built-in DIP switch. Connect the coaxial cable to the BNC connector on each device and connect the Ethernet device (for example an IP camera or NVR) to the RJ45 port. Choose the transmission mode (asymmetric or symmetric) according to the required upstream/downstream ratio. Power the units and verify link and data transmission; the pair will provide point-to-point Ethernet extension over the existing coaxial cable.
Use the VC-232G pair with well-maintained coaxial cabling and within the specified maximum distance to achieve the stated throughput. For deployments with higher upstream requirements, select symmetric mode; for short links prioritizing downstream speed, select asymmetric mode. Ensure proper grounding and follow local installation best practices when connecting to outdoor or long-run coaxial infrastructure.
