Rembrandt 93080041 sanguine red art paper comes as a pack of 50 A3 sheets (29.7 × 42 cm) with a weight of 180 g/m² and a blend that includes 15% cotton and 20% recycled fibre. The warm blood-red tone provides a traditional base for life drawing, studies and mixed-media work where midtones and light colours can stand out against the toned surface.
This art paper offers a consistent, slightly textured surface suitable for a range of dry and wet media. Its 180 g/m² weight gives each sheet enough body for layering with pencils, charcoals and soft pastels while still accepting light applications of gouache, inks and acrylics. The inclusion of cotton improves tooth and durability, and the recycled content reduces environmental impact without compromising working properties.
The paper is not intended for heavy-bodied or impasto painting techniques; very thick layers of acrylic or oil will exceed the paper’s structural limits and may cause warping or sagging. For extensive wet-on-wet painting or prolonged heavy wash saturation, heavier or specially prepared supports are recommended.
Work directly on individual sheets for sketches, studies or finished drawings. Use pencils, charcoal, conte and soft pastels on the toned surface to take advantage of the midtone base; add highlights with light-coloured media. When applying gouache, inks or thin acrylic washes, test the absorbency first and apply sparingly to avoid over-saturation. Secure sheets to a drawing board if firmer support is required.
For best results in life drawing and tonal work, use the paper as a midtone ground: lay in shadows with dark pencils or charcoal and reserve light pastels or white gouache for highlights. Keep wet layers thin and allow sheets to dry flat to prevent warping.
