Circuit breaker Schneider Electric A9F04440 — 4-pole C curve 40 A, IP20
Schneider Electric A9F04440 (iC60N-C40-4) is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker with a type C thermal-magnetic trip characteristic and a rated current of 40 A. Designed for overload and short-circuit protection in multi-phase electrical installations, it fits standard DIN-rail distribution boards and provides simultaneous disconnection of all poles. The device has IP20 degree of protection and a compact module width suitable for residential and commercial distribution panels.
The A9F04440 offers coordinated common-trip protection for three-phase circuits with neutral, reducing the risk of unsafe phase imbalance during fault conditions. Its compact footprint and standard DIN-rail mounting make it easy to integrate into existing modular switchboards. Compatibility with common accessories such as auxiliary contacts and mounting aids allows flexible configuration without complex panel modifications.
This circuit breaker is not intended for circuits with high inrush currents where a D or K trip curve is typically required to prevent nuisance tripping, for example some large motors or highly inductive loads. It should not be used in place of protection devices that must meet specific industrial certifications or specialized characteristics mandated by particular applications.
Mount the breaker on a standard DIN-rail in the distribution board, ensuring correct orientation and secure connections for all line and load terminals. Use conductors with appropriate cross-section and tighten terminals to the manufacturer’s torque values for 40 A service. After wiring, perform insulation and continuity checks and verify correct phase sequence where required before energising. Coordinate with upstream and downstream protective devices to maintain selectivity.
Coordinate the A9F04440 with upstream protection and assess motor starting or other high inrush devices to avoid nuisance trips; where necessary select a different trip curve or add appropriate protective devices. Perform regular inspections of terminals and periodic testing in accordance with local electrical codes.
