The StarTech.com USB-C Hub 4-Port 5Gbps Bus Powered USB-A Hub adds four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) ports to a computer with a USB-C port, using the built-in 1 ft (30 cm) host cable. It is backward compatible with USB 2.0 (480Mbps) devices and supports a variety of peripherals such as flash drives, external HDDs/SSDs, cameras, mice, keyboards, webcams and headsets. The compact, lightweight design improves portability for laptop and desktop use.

Advantages

This hub provides expanded USB connectivity from a single USB-C port while remaining OS-independent and driverless, supporting Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux, iPadOS and Android. It can operate with bus power alone or accept optional auxiliary USB-C power (up to 15W) to better support higher-power devices. Each downstream port includes Overcurrent Protection (OCP) and can supply power to connected peripherals. The extra-long 1 ft (30 cm) cable reduces connector strain on 2-in-1 devices and simplifies setup.

How to use

Connect the hub's built-in USB-C host cable to a USB-C port on your computer. Attach USB-A peripherals to the downstream ports. The hub is plug-and-play and will be automatically detected and configured by the operating system. If a connected device requires additional power, connect a compatible USB-C power adapter (sold separately) to the hub's auxiliary USB-C power input to provide up to 15W extra power. Note that the hub does not support charging the host laptop.

Usage recommendations

For reliable operation, use a USB-C power adapter that provides up to 5V/3A when connecting high-draw devices such as external SSDs. Avoid using a single downstream port for devices that exceed the port’s available power.
