Description

The Tripp Lite U442-DOCK3-B USB-C Docking Station expands a laptop or Chromebook USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port into a multiport workstation. It provides a single-cable connection for video output, data transfer, wired Ethernet and Power Delivery (PD) charging. The compact, black dock includes HDMI and VGA video outputs, USB-A and USB-C data ports, MicroSD and SD/MMC card slots, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The built-in reversible USB-C cable stows under the unit for portable use. Note: This model is incompatible with Apple macOS Big Sur 11.x.x (2019) in some configurations.

Advantages

The dock supports USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode to transmit 4K video and digital audio without additional drivers when the host supports Alt Mode. Its HDMI port outputs up to 3840 x 2160 (4K) at 30 Hz, while the VGA port supports up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz; only one display can be used at a time. Two USB-A ports and one USB-C data port provide USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds up to 5 Gbps and backward compatibility with USB 2.0/1.1; one USB-A port supports up to 5V 1.5A for device charging. The USB-C PD port accepts up to 100W (20V 5A) input for charging PD-compliant notebooks, tablets and smartphones and also functions as a 5 Gbps data port. An RJ45 port delivers true 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet. MicroSD and SD/MMC card slots permit external memory access (one card at a time). The dock is plug-and-play and requires no external power supply.

How to use

Connect the dock’s built-in USB-C cable to a host device that supports USB-C or Thunderbolt 3. If the host supports USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode, connect an HDMI or VGA cable from the dock to your external display to output video and audio. Plug USB peripherals into the USB-A or USB-C ports and insert a MicroSD or SD/MMC card into the appropriate slot (only one card at a time). For wired network access, connect an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port. To charge a notebook or other PD-compatible device, connect the device’s AC charger to the dock’s USB-C PD port; the port also supports data transfer. Drivers install automatically on first connection if the host operating system permits driver installation.
